What is optical illusion art?

Optical illusion art (also called Op Art or perceptual art) uses precise geometric forms to create perceptual effects — motion, depth, color shifting, figure-ground ambiguity — that arise purely from your visual processing system. The artwork itself is static; all effects exist in your mind.

The genre emerged formally in the 1960s with Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely, though examples date back centuries.
